Event saddles are created to support the varied demands of all three phases of eventing and typically combine features from dressage and jumping saddles to allow for effective performance across the different disciplines. These saddles often have more forward-cut flaps to facilitate movement and allow riders to adopt a jumping position when necessary, especially during cross-country phase. They are designed to help the rider maintain a balanced position during fast-paced riding and jumping, providing stability when navigating technical courses whilst offering comfort with padded seats and knee rolls for the rider, as well as designs that distribute pressure evenly on the horse’s back – crucial for long rides and jumps. The design supports the rider’s position over fences, with adequate knee and thigh support to promote a secure seat while jumping. Many Event saddles come with adjustable gullet systems or other features that allow for customisation to fit the specific needs of a horse as it develops or changes shape.
